* Emmy’s POV
'' I intend to pay you personally for your studies in architecture in the school of your choice, but on one condition.
I am suddenly seized with a fright, is he making advances to me? Does he want to make me his mistress like several rich men of his age do with certain young girls? Yet he has never made inappropriate gestures towards me since I have known him, but then why would he want to take care of my studies?
'' I want you to marry my son, he continues.
'' Sorry ? I say, getting up quickly.
“Yes Emmy I want you to marry my youngest son, Kendall.
''But…but…the…arranged marriages are no longer of this…this century, I stammered.
He sighs.
"I know it Emmy but Kendall…Kendall…how can I explain it to you? My son will never marry, at least not of his own free will and that I cannot allow.
'' But if he doesn't want to get married, that's his choice! Nothing forces him to.
He looks at me for a moment, the serenity in his eyes does not reassure me at all.
'' He agrees to marry you, he finally lets go.
I widen my eyes in amazement.
“He agrees to marry me?
'' Yes.
'' Are you telling the truth?
'' Yes.
"Has he seen me before?
'' Nope.
'' My first name he knows at least?
'' Nope.
“Oh, I get knocked out.
I sit down slowly in front of him, it's too many emotions for me.
'' I don't think you remember but Emmy I've known you since you were very little, at the time I was not yet in charge of my family's affairs, I was still young and your father too, and you were already a little girl full of character, sweet, calm but with a touch of character and when your father told me about your conflict I immediately knew that you had lost none of your character and that's what my son needs, I confess that I've been looking for a wife for my son for a while now, with his agreement of course, but I haven't found a young woman who catches my attention so that you seem to me to be perfect for my son.
He is looking for a "wife" for his son with his "agreement" he said? It's mind-boggling!
Me Anguilet “perfect” Emmy for his son? It's incredible !
"I'll pay you for Emmy architecture school, you know I don't lack the money to do that," he said reassuringly!
So there, yes I confirm the money does not miss him, he is a hundred times more fortunate than dad, maybe even more.
Even as I look at her still shocked by her proposal, a question burns my lips.
'' My father is aware of all this story?
'' No, I preferred to discuss it with you, but he knows Kendall, I don't think he will object if you decide to become his wife.
Wow! Is her son even normal? Maybe he suffers from a mental illness, because who in our time lets his father choose his wife for him? Finally, I speak for Central Africa.
'' Mr. Ngnan, I really want to study architecture but to marry a stranger is just quite extreme.
'' Yes I understand that's why I'm giving you two years, during this time I'll pay you for architecture school and by then you'll already be 21 so the absolute majority, I know that even then it will do still young but I know you are a very mature girl for your age.
He was well informed, I say!
“Mister Ngnan, I…I don't know.
“You have two years to decide Emmy, think carefully.
Two years to decide...
***End of flashback***
I leave in front of the bay window where I was still standing, I sit behind my desk with my head in my hands.
Here I am seven years later married to Kendall Ngnan, five years of marriage, five years since I became Madame Ngnan, I continued my studies of architecture to the level where I wanted and I set up this company there a year old.
It seems crazy that I finally agreed to marry Kendall after long nights of reflection but only true enthusiasts like me can understand my gesture, my love for architecture was stronger than the fear of marrying a stranger and also my father was sticking to his decision not to pay me for architecture lessons, which made me lose hope little by little and the fact that Mr. Ngnan was the father of my future husband reassured me, I don't know why, but deep down I had a certain confidence in Mr. Ngnan, perhaps this confidence was due to the fact that he was a great friend of my father and to tell the truth my father always knew how to choose his friends, these few friends were always upright men and workers like him I would say.
Mr. Ngnan had said that I was "perfect" for his son and that I had "character".
Temper…
Yes I know I have character but in front of Kendall what is the character of ten women like me worth? Kendall can drive a crazy woman crazy!
Kendall… Kendall Ngnan… My husband…
Can I really consider myself his wife? On paper, yes I am his wife, but what is a piece of paper worth when the feelings are not there?
During these five years of marriage I got to know Kendall, I even believe that unconsciously he also ended up knowing me because he knows so much where to touch to hurt me.
Kendall is not that kind of talkative, rude or noisy man, he is even quite the opposite, he does not talk much, I even think that talking exhausts him, sometimes I wonder how he manages to approach all the women he sleeps with in the city, but does he even approach them? We must not lie to each other, Kendall is rich and handsome, he has charm, he does not need to speak to ignite the flame of desire in a woman, only his look is enough, this look that upsets me every time let him put it on me.
I take a pencil and paper, I have to get to work.
To be continued....
