My heart slammed against my ribs the moment I saw the fellow sitting lazily on the comfy couch across from the bed, one leg crossed over the other and tapping her fingers rhythmically against the chair’s arm. Her expression wasn’t worried or relieved; just straight-up impatience, laced with a healthy dose of ‘what-the-hell.’
“Sylvia?” I croaked, my voice barely working. “How… How did you get here?!”
“Excellent questions,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
“Wait... my mom!” I blurted suddenly, panic snapping me out of the leftover blur in my head. “Is she okay? I hope she’s not worried.”
