I stand by the woodpile. This time, however, the happy feeling that usually courses through my body has been replaced by a sense of sadness and anger over the guards we lost. My pack stands before me, and they appear to be sharing the same feelings.
"Members of Gray River, tonight we have gathered for this bonfire to remember those we lost in this morning's attack. Each of our warriors was strong and fearless. They trained diligently and answered every call. We won't forget their lives, not by any of us. My heart is heavy with grief," I say, pausing to look at the wood.
