His mother was lying down on her side, her face buried in the pillows. Her mouth hung slightly open and a light snore escaped her parted lips. He smiled softly and moved away to give her some space. As he closed the door shut behind him, he heard his mother stir slightly and pull her covers upwards a little. He walked over to the door of the bathroom and checked to make sure it was closed, before closing it too. He placed the kettle onto the stove and plugged it in.
