“Leonard?” My voice cracked as I tried to speak. I needed him to tell me this wasn’t real, that what I’d just read was some twisted joke.

But his reaction said it all. He slowly put the phone down, his fists trembling at his sides. His eyes locked on mine, a storm brewing within them.
