I had canceled a multi-million-dollar board meeting the second Caleb called me.

Hearing that Adrian Roth, the fake Swiss investor, had showed up at Elena's crappy Brooklyn apartment and pointed a gun at my right-hand man was enough to make my blood boil. Ever since that man stepped into the picture, Elena was slipping further out of my control.

The heavy oak doors of my top-floor office clicked shut, leaving just the two of us inside.
