Wallace is in mixed emotions. He doesn't want Pamela to think that he is cheating on her with Vera, at the same time he is happy to see that Pamela is jealous; because that would be an indication that she loves him.

"What is the matter, Pamela?" Wallace smiles very slightly, by the corner of his mouth, "Are you jealous?"

Pamela takes another cup and throws it violently at Wallace. He ducks and the cup goes away, crashing into a wall.

"You bastard, idiot! And then do you complain that I want to marry Josias? He's not an idiot and blind like you!"

Wallace gets angry and loses his temper...
