I sat in a treehouse in the backyard. I heard someone climbing up the ladder onto a platform as I dangled my legs over the side. The person sat down next to me.
“So, is this your getaway place?” Michael asked me.
“Lakin calls it my fortress of solitude,” I said.
Michael chuckled. “It’s okay to cry.”
“Oh, I can’t cry. If I cry, then I’ll cry all the time. No one wants to see a weeping mess.”
