It was late. The bedroom light was dim. Ellyn and Edward lay sleeping in the twin bassinets beside the bed.

Nathan sat at the edge of the mattress, his back against the headboard. Elena lay stretched out beside him, her upper body propped on pillows, hair loose around her shoulders. She glanced toward the bassinets, then back at Nathan.
