I got out of bed and walked over to the mirror to fix my hair. I intended to pretend in front of Gyle that I wasn't feeling sad about what Christian had told me. I knew Gyle wasn't foolish, and he knew me, but I didn't care. I wound my pride after what Christian had told me. Christian had rejected me.
"Can you sit down, Cassandra?"
"No, I can't. I'm leaving," I lied.
"You're leaving? No, you can't go."

"Why can't I go? Do I need to ask for your permission?"
