"Oh, I don't think you can do that. It says 'pedicure' right on the card," he blurted out.

Of course, this protest immediately sounded ridiculous, but he couldn't control his initial reaction to the unappealing news. Bill knew he sounded weird weighing in on her decision one way or the other.
