EVE’S POV

I was having a good evening, and I wished his sister hadn't come to interrupt. Whatever she came to Lychan for had to be extremely serious if she couldn't wait to arrive the next day. I wandered the hall and admired it; the different paintings hung on the wall, and the marks on the wall added to the luxurious taste of the building. I was curious about the writings and symbols I saw. I stared intently at them, hoping to find answers, when Zack suddenly appeared behind me.

“They are carvings of her ancestors; each writing tells a story of what led to their death; its something the Hive pack does to preserve the memory of the ones we've lost.”

“I see, and do you read minds too?”

“Not; I was able to tell your curiosity from the way you kept staring at the writings.”

“Thanks for the explanation; I should get going”. I didn't know Zack well enough, but i didn't want to go against Lunaris orders, so I decided to was best I left.

“My brother told you to stay away from me, and you're leaving because you don't want to upset him”. He was right, but i wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.

“I am a free woman, Zack, I can do whatever I choose to

“Then stay with me, we could go to my quarters and play some games” it was a tempting offer, but I knew I wasnt going to take it.

“Maybe some other time, Zack” I walked off to my room before I had a change of mind. I was halfway down the hall when he yelled at me;

“I am not the one you should be scared of Eve, i am not the bad guy” i wondered what he meant by that but i ignored him instead.

I slumped on my bed immediately i returned into the room, I was going to be bored to death if i chose to stay here but i guess it was better than walking into whatever death trap Ryan had laid out for me. I spent the rest of my night thinking about Lunaris and what Zack had said to me.

I felt the Sunray directly on my face as soon as the curtains were opened.

“What the fuck” I groaned and covered my head with my pillow.

“Good morning to you too, Alpha Eve; sorry i had to wake you up, but I need to do some check-ups”

“Well we can do it later Katherina, can you leave me alone please?”

“I wish i could do that, but Alpha Lunaris has ordered me.

I grumpily dragged myself off my bed and stared at her. “What now?”

“A bath has been prepared for you, I will be here.”

“Why can't I just take a shower? A bath is a long process”, i tried to negotiate

“It has to be a bath.”

I frowned and entered into the bathroom. I got infk the tub and it felt really relaxing, better than the one Rosalie had always prepared for me while i was home.

As soon as i was done i found Lunaris in the room with Katherine explaining whatever details. I clung on to my towel like it threatened to fall; the last thing I wanted was to show my body to him after he had ordered me away from the garden yesterday

“I could come back later, I didn't mean to interrupt your bath.”

“You aren't interupting”. I felt stupid after saying that, i had planned to stay mad at him and that wasn't how an angry person would respond, his eye accessed me and i cladded my towel even tighter than before.

“The hive clan have their annual ball tonight, I was informing Katherina about it so she could pass the message.”

“Oh, thanks for the invite. I don't know if you have noticed but i didn't exactly arrive here with any of my belongings let alone an outfit suitable for a ball.”

He was about to respond when the door flung open; Zara waved and cut him off.

“I am on it, I was thinking Eve, and i could shop for tonight's outfit together, I have not planned to attend, but since I am here, I guess I could make an exception for this year.”

“Thank you, Kara, I should get dressed; l will join you in a bit.”

“Oh, Lunaris can leave, I don't mind you getting dressed in front of me.”

“Outside now! Kara” Lunaris yelled as he pushed her out the door without looking back. I saw Katherina chuckle and I just didn't get it, i also didn't mind if Kara stayed while i got dressed, we were of the same gender after all.

Kara was a chattebox all through our ride to the store and i loved it, she asked me questions about my clsn and how i became Alpha. We started picking out clothes as soon as we got to the store. Kara was a picky type, and she hissed at every outfit she considered despicable

“So tell me, have you mated with anyone?” she suddenly asked

“I almost did, but i was saved from a tragedy; what about you?

“I don't believe in mating, I strongly believe two people should be allowed to fall in love and decide their fate.”

“So i am guessing you've been in love then?” she nodded and i continued, “what is he like?”

“You mean she?, i am not into men like the usual wolf girls,” . I found it amusing that she was a rule breaker, i also understood why Lunaris had ordered her out when she offered to stay with me earlier.

“Whats she like?”

“She is a sweetheart, I met her in court as an opposing lawyer, and her smartness was a huge turn”

“Is she one of our kind?”

“No, she's human, but she's aware of who I am. I could introduce you to her tonight; she will be at the ball.”

I nodded my head in agreement and went on to pick a red dress.

“I bet that will look gorgeous on you, she winked

The hallway was busier than usual, flowers and ornament were being hung everywhere. I stopped by Lunaris study and placed my ear on the wall to listen for any sound.

“Do you need something?”I turned around and found him smiling at me, I shook my head and hurried off to my room embarrassed at what I had just done.

Kathrina joined me an hour later and began to prepare me for the ball, I kept staring at her from the mirror as she applied oil to my hair.

“How long have you been working for the Alpha?”

“Since I was ten my lady”, she softly responded

“You can call me Eve” I didn’t want her to always tiptoe around me as she was the only one that I could always speak to

“I wouldn’t dare,my lady”. It was going to be harder than I thought

“Could I ask you something?”

“Of course, my lady”

“Does alpha Lunaris have a mate?”

“I am not allowed to speak about that my lady”she bowed her head . First he had avoided the topic when she brought it up, now Katherina was doing the same thing, I was starting to get sick of everyone hiding something from me.

“It’s fine, I am sure with time, you would feel more relaxed with me” she smiles and continued to apply the oil on my hair, she was about to pack it in my usual bun when I decided to stop her.

“I’d love to leave it down tonight, I want to try out something new.”

I was dressed in no time and I made my way to the ballroom. The room was filled with people gisting and drinking and I felt like the odd one out. I scanned the room for Lunaris, but he was nowhere to be found.

“He’s not here yet” Kara called out from behind me.

“You look beautiful, Kara, and I wasn’t searching for anyone”, I lied

“You make a terrible liar; you and Lunaris have that in common. Meet Kylie, my co-worker and sexy ass girlfriend.”

“Nice to meet you, Kylie, I’ve only met Kara once and she has told me a lot about you, you look absolutely stunning in that outfit”.

“You’re too kind, babe. Could we get a drink? I’m parched.”

“Alright baby” Kara slipped around Kylie’s waist and made way for the bar. I was left standing alone once again, and I reached for a glass of champagne from a server.

I was vibing to the rhythm of the music when everything suddenly stopped and everyone bowed in one direction. I was confused about what was happening until I saw Lunaris. I guess it was the clan's way of announcing the presence of the alpha; beside him were two wolves in their wolf form hovering around him. Everyone soon went back to their activity and I stared at him from where I stood, I wanted to walk up to him but a soft tap stopped me.

“Hey Zack, nice Ball, must be nice to be a member of the pack.”

“I don’t feel that way, but if you say so. You look really beautiful tonight Eve, do you mind if I steal you away for a bit?”

“I wanted to turn him down but he had paid more attention to me than Lunaris tonight so I accepted his invite.

“If you can promise me an evening of fun.”I smiled

“You’re in luck; fun happens to be my middle name….”
