“Kilian!” I squeaked.
In an instant, his hand shot out, pressing over mine. His strength and skill steered the horse away just in time, narrowly avoiding a collision.
My heart hammered as we came to a slow stop, Kilian’s hand was still holding mine, keeping the reins steady.
I exhaled shakily, my cheeks flushed from fear and adrenaline. “I—I didn’t even see the tree…” I whispered, still trembling slightly.
Kilian chuckled softly. “It’s alright,” he said. “I’ve got you. That’s why I’m here.”
