I felt unusual throughout the ride home from the orphanage. Not because of that unruly woman who dared to drive a wedge between my daughter and her husband, but because of everything that the nurse said.
This wasn’t the first time my husband and I would be receiving condolence greetings for a daughter we never lost. We took Elora home after she fully recovered, and she had now grown into a well-rounded and healthy woman, so I really wondered why people had been getting the narrative that she died.
