Chapter 6 - SIX

Chapter 6 - SIX

Ivy's POV

I called Ron and ask him if it was okay to move back home but he said that the house was still under some investigations so it was best I stayed with him and Christy, although I already drove past the house and I saw that the investigation tapes have all been removed but I understand where he was coming from and in all honesty, I also did not want to stay at home ,all alone.

My taxi pulls up to the front of their home and I can't get over how beautiful it was. It had been a long time since I was here and nothing had really changed yet it was still as beautiful as it had always been. As I was coming out of the car, Christy bursts out the front door and envelopes me in a tight hug even before I could say anything. She was a tall woman and she smelt of cinnamon and honey. She had this aura of making you feel so special and I remember how she used to be my favorite auntie when I was little. She was one of those women you definitely knew would make an excellent mother but the universe and the goddess had a way of doing things because it was people like her that were usually not blessed with their own kids.

"How was your trip down here?" She pulled me out of her embrace and held me at arms length whole looking all over at me as though making sure I was alright. She had a wide grin on her face and it reminded me of just how much have missed her.

"It was fine Christy, how are you?" I asked with a wide grin of my own

"Oh I'm fine, just out here being a good housewife and stuff" she laughed and I joined her.

"Alright enough, let's get some food into your system before we continue our small talk okay?"

"Okay" I nod my head enthusiastically as I hear the mention of food because I was very much famished. I take out all my boxes from the taxi and paid him and we watched him drive off before we went into the house with Christy helping me with some of my luggage.

"The house still looks the same and even more beautiful, I didn't realize how much I've missed this place Christy" I said as I stood in the middle of the living room looking around and smiling and I turned to her "I didn't also realized how much I've missed you Christy " I throw myself into her arms and she hugs me tight. I did not know when the tears came and I was crying in her arms like a baby while she ran her hands through my hair

"It's okay sweetheart, cry as much as you want, everything will be fine. Just let it all out" she whispered to me and I let it all out because we stayed in that position for minutes before I ran out of tears to cry

"I know how hard it is for you and I want you to always remember that I am here for you, whenever you need me okay? I know that I can not take Rose's position ass mother in your life but I am willing to try my best" Christy told me as she placed her hands in mine and he hugged her

"Thank you so much for letting me stay here, I appreciate it "

"Oh dear, it's nothing. Now you go freshen up and come have some food okay?"

"Okay" I said as I give her a kiss on the cheek and take my luggage with me to my room. It was crazy how this house was my second home and growing up I kind of forgot about it.

Everywhere was sparkling clean and I start unpacking my thing because I knew that if I did not do it now, it was going to take a long time before I found the energy to do it again. I finished unpacking and had a shower, changed into something comfortable and went down to eat.

"You're done? You took such a long time, are you okay?" Christy asked immediately I came down the stairs

"Yes Christy, I'm alright. I just decided to unpack before I did anything else" I explained to her

"Oh okay then, it's time to eat" she stood up from her sit in the living room and walked to the dining while I followed her. As we sat down to eat, we heard a car pull up to the front of the house

"That must be Ron" Christy said while looking at the wall clock in the living room

"And he's back early today" she pointed out as the front door opened and in came Ron

"Well well, eating without me?" He joked as he walked to the dining room and gave his wife a kiss on her lips

"Welcome home honey, how was work? And you're back home early is everything okay?" Christy bombarded him with questions

"Well thank you. Work was fine and I'm back home early cause my remaining work of the day is right here in my house, that she has not been to since her last visit sometime when she was like twelve years old " he said while giving me a funny look and I just smile at him

"It's not my fault I grew up " I try to come to my defense although I knew my excuse sounded lame as hell.

"Well of course it's not. Now what's for lunch? I'm famished!" He exclaimed and Christy let out a small laugh

"When aren't you famished?" She teased as she dished out food for all of us.

We ate our lunch while reminiscing old memories and how life used to be when I was little with nothing other than school, games and the latest fashion to worry about.

After lunch, I helped Christy clear the table and when I offered to help her with the dishes, she shooed me away and told me to go take some fresh air outside and I decided to do just that because it seemed like a good idea. I walked out of the house and sat at the balcony and just stared at the beautiful scenery and I get carried away by it's beauty that I did not notice when Ron came to join me at the balcony

"That is called the pride of Cali " he said to me and I was startled because I had no idea he was standing there. I was silent for sometime before I looked at the bird again but this time it flew away

"Really? Why?" I asked Ron . The bird was very bright and it had different colors all over it's body

"I don't know for sure but some say it's because it has the colors of the rainbow as it's color " he tells me with a shrug

"Oh, I see. It's a beautiful bird" I state my observation and Ron nodded his head in agreement

"That is it, no doubt" he agreed and comes to sit down opposite me

"We had a meeting at the office today" he starts

"Okay, about dad's death?" I asked because that was the only reason he would be telling me about the meeting he had with his work people

"Yes, something of that sort. We actually discussed about who the next Sheriff should be" he clarified

"Well that should not have to be up for a debate of any sort, you are the best person for the job" I told him. Ron had been my father's assistant since I was little so to me there really was no argument on who should be the next Sheriff.

"That's what everyone thinks too but your father and I had someone else in mind before his death and I still think that person was and still is the right choice" he reveals to me

"And who is this? I'm curious to know " I ask dying with curiosity.

"It's no other person than you Ivy, you're going to make an excellent sheriff "

I was surprised because yes I've always wanted to and trained to be a sheriff but I didn't apply to any department after college sand I just stayed home but seeing how my father and Ron put in the work to ensure that I got my dreams that I had always wished for.

"But how can that work, I don't think the department will accept me" I tell him while shaking my head

"I already sorted that out so the only thing holding me back now is if you want to be the sheriff or not" he asked .

I would definitely love to be the sheriff and not only because I get to actually do the thing I've loved since I was a child but I can also plan my parents revenge more easily and smoothly when I take on the role of sheriff. But I also knew it was not going to be an easy ride as the sheriff department was mostly full of men and then me who has not even been a member of any department before now coming to be their head was not going to be accepted by a lot of them but still I was willing to accumulate a bunch of haters as long as my goals were met.

"Of course I want to be the sheriff, that has been my dream for the longest time"

"That's good then, I'll advice that you come with me to the office tomorrow then so the people at the office can start early to get accustomed to seeing your face. Is that alright by you? "

"Yes Ron that will be fine" I nod my head although I felt it was too week for me to already be moving on when it had barely been a week since my parents died but I also understood that time waits for no one and there were things that had to be done.

Ron went in and I decided to sit down at the balcony for sometime before going in. The way my life was changing drastically scared me because I wad not even sure I was ready for this stages that were being presented to me and the scariest path was nobody cared if I was ready or not because as long as it was here then I had no choice but to be ready for it.

I could not help but think that that would have not been the case if my father was here, he had always told me to follow my heart and if it doesn't feel right then I should not do it but the problem here was I didn't know if what I was doing felt right or wrong. I was just stuck in the middle and that was the worst of them all, uncertainty.

The singing of a bird, jolts me out of my thoughts and I look to see that it was the rainbow colored bird again. It had come to perch on the iron railing at the balcony and it was staring at me.

"Hey, pride of Cali, you came back " I say to it and it makes a noise as though responding to my statement and I laugh.

I stretch out my hands slowly because I didn't want it to run away and to my surprise it left the railing and perched on my hands

"You're not afraid of anything are you?" I asked it and it responded by nibbling the middle of my hands and I let out a small laugh as the feeling of it's beak in the middle of my palm was ticklish and with that it flew away but not without hovering for a moment in the air as though waving at me and that little encounter made me get clear in what I wanted. I was like I had one of those life changing talk I used to have with my father.
