Three days had passed since I left Darkhall territory.

We had found shelter in an abandoned cabin at the edge of the neutral lands, a place Jaden knew from his years of patrolling the borders. It was small and drafty and the roof leaked when it rained, but it was ours. No one could reach us here. No one could hurt us.

Becca had spent the first day cleaning every corner until the dust was gone and the windows sparkled. Jaden had repaired the door and patched the roof and chopped enough wood to last us through the month. I had walked the perimeter and marked the boundaries...
