I swear, if Damien opened his mouth one more time, I was going to lose it right there in the middle of History class. The bell had ten minutes left, but the tension between us had been boiling for months. He sat two rows behind me, always with that stupid smirk, like the world was his personal playground and I was the only thing ruining his fun.
“Elena, you’re wrong again,” he drawled, loud enough for the whole class to hear. “The Treaty of Versailles didn’t just ‘cause’ World War II. That’s what lazy students say when they don’t read the full chapter.”
