"Caroline, I'm sorry to disturb you last night.” I suppose if the children were sound asleep, but adults in their sensitive nature must have noticed the unusual commotion.

The orphanage had only two teachers, Caroline and Audrey and a cook, Mr. Aberes. Both Caroline and Aberes had been with Johnny since the inception of the institution. It was only in the last year or two that Audrey had arrived here as a new teacher. She was a rather solemn and reserved lady. I wasn't particularly familiar with her; she tended to be excessively serious, and the thought of her sent shivers down my spine.
