Impossible.

I stepped back at her words, eyes widening, fixed on her as I waited, half-expecting her to laugh at my expression, to tease me for even thinking she was serious.

But she didn’t.

Her expression stayed the same, the same mischievous glint in her eyes, the same amused smirk on her lips that only seemed to widen the longer she watched me. Seconds passed, and still she said nothing.

Her words just echoed in my head.
