I reached across the bed before opening my eyes.

My hand met an empty sheet.

I dragged my arm farther across the bed, expecting to find Nora near the edge, but my fingers touched nothing except cold, smooth fabric.

My eyes snapped open.

She might have just gone to the bathroom.

The thought did little to loosen the knot forming in my chest.

I pulled on my boxers and crossed the quiet bedroom. The bathroom door stood partly open. I pushed it wider and looked inside.

“Nora?”
