I turned toward the rear window, trying to make out the car behind us through the scattered headlights. Vehicles filled the coastal road, moving one after another. Nothing looked out of the ordinary.
A moment later, the driver's voice broke the silence. "The second team says the vehicle has turned off. It isn't following us anymore."
A quiet breath escaped me before I realized I'd been holding it.
"They think it may have just been heading in the same direction," the driver continued, his eyes adjusting in the rearview mirror, "but they'll stay alert just in case.”
