After Roland and Oliver's last meeting at his house, Alice seemed to have trouble contacting Roland. All calls and text messages Alice sent were never answered.
Alice took the initiative to approach Roland at his apartment, but she found no one. None of Roland's bandmates wanted to tell him where the man was.
"Al, in the afternoon Uncle Ferdy's family will visit the house. Please come home on time, don't embarrass your father and mother," Oliver ordered while sitting together eating breakfast.
Alice was silent. He continued with his activity of spreading bread with jam. As if deliberately not listening to what his father ordered.
"Alice listen, daddy!" As if knowing that his son deliberately did not listen. Oliver raised her voice an octave, making Alice immediately glance at her.
"What did you say to Roland? Why do you have such a heart for Alice!" asked the woman at the time in a cynical tone without even looking at Oliver Swan's face.
"Father only asked him to keep his distance from you because you will soon marry Uncle Ferdy's child," Oliver replied casually.
Alice immediately stared intently at her father, but not the slightest bit of sweet lips uttered a word. He chose to stand up from the dining table and immediately went to get ready for the office.
With unsteady steps, Alice entered the study. His face showed a profound expression of annoyance. His father managed to stir up his emotions this morning. He threw his slender body on the sofa and took a shaky breath.
"Hi, Al. What's going on? Something wrong, honey?" Dewi asked, surprised to see Alice's behaviour this morning.
"Maybe Alice is thinking about Roland." Dinda's answer succeeded in making Dewi glare. He hinted at Dinda not to discuss Roland in front of Alice. Of course, their best friend would be sad to hear Roland's name being mentioned again.
"Do you still remember the story about the match my father arranged for me?" Alice suddenly spoke. "Today the cOliverdate prepared by the father wants to visit the house with his parents."
Dinda, curious, deliberately moved her position closer to where Alice was sitting.
"Al, did you have any idea about your future husband before? I mean do you know what kind of person he is?"
Alice took a deep breath before answering her best friend's question. "For God's sake, I've never even met him. I've never even seen his picture. All I know is that he's the son of Uncle Ferdy Fernandez, my father's best friend from childhood,"
"Just a moment... Wait, you mean Ferdy Fernandez who owns the hotel and property chain?" Now it's the goddess's turn to ask Alice questions.
Alice shrugged, indicating that she didn't understand the background of the person she would be betrothed to.
If Ferdy Fernandez is your father's best friend, that means you are the future son-in-law of a conglomerate, Al," said Dewi at length.
Instead of responding, Alice got up from her seat. Choose to leave the room to go to the pantry immediately.
***
Alice landed her tiny body on the bed.
She had been waiting for thirty minutes for the arrival of an important guest who was predicted to be her husband-to-be. Alice had crossed her mind to run away from this meeting. However, he quickly pushed that thought away. Because if he is reckless, it is sure that his parents will bear the shame.
While daydreaming, I faintly heard the sound of a car entering the yard. Alice woke up and immediately peeked from behind the curtains in her room. It turned out that the guests who had been waiting had finally arrived. A feeling of nervousness enveloped Alice's heart. Was he ready to accept this match?
"Alice, open the door, honey. The guests have arrived. Come on, come with me downstairs." Alice dragged her feet lazily when her mother asked her to come down immediately.
"That's Alice," Oliver Swan's words suddenly made all the guests look at him. Alice strolled, mingling with the guests.
"How are you, Alice? Do you still remember Aunt? You used to play at home when you were little." Alice smiled. He doesn't even remember Uncle Ferdy and Aunt Luna, his wife. Aunt Luna brought her body closer and hugged Alice warmly.
Alice still couldn't understand what was so special about the family of Uncle Ferdy and Aunt Luna that her father was insistent on accepting this arranged marriage. However, Alice admitted that Aunt Luna was indeed a loving mother. The proof was that he immediately hugged her warmly when he met Alice. Then, where are their children who will be betrothed to him? He did not see any man other than Uncle Ferdy.
"Alice, try to show Ken around the house first. So you can get to know each other." Alice's brow furrowed in confusion. Deliberately rolling his eyes and looking for the figure in his father's meaning.
However, the next second, Alice's body immediately stiffened. Her irises caught the figure of a man who had just entered the house. The man she had hated because of his arrogance.
Jacob Fernandez.
It turns out Jacob Fernandez is the child of Uncle Ferdy and Aunt Luna. That means Mr Jacob, the owner of BlackHorse Corp., is the man she will marry. Alice couldn't help but be shocked at the sight in front of her.
How could he not? He was the person who belittled Alice during the meeting the other day. He didn't want to welcome Alice's hand. Then now, the man smiled as if showing his sweetest smile. Alice also realized that the handsome face, like a Korean Oppa, descended from Luna, her mother.
Luna enthusiastically asked Jacob to approach her. "Ken, let's say hello to Alice first. Do you still remember, Alice? She was your childhood playmate." Luna took Jacob's hand and then deliberately linked their hands together.
"Yes, Ken remembers, Ma. The little boy who often cries when he comes home didn't bring my toys, right?" he said as he took Alice's hand gently.
Everyone laughed at Jacob's words. Alice hasn't even realized yet, and now the man admits that he remembers everyone that Alice was his childhood friend. Friends who always cry when they don't bring their toys home.
Alice feels humiliated by Jacob. He felt stupid not remembering the slightest memory of when he used to know Jacob. Even Alice wasn't sure she had ever been Jacob's friend as a child.
Jacob has the wrong person. Since when did I become his friend? Seriously!
Alice took a deep breath, trying to inhale as much oxygen as possible. She didn't want to suddenly faint from the shock of facing reality before her eyes.
"Then you two go around first, who knows later Alice will remember you, Ken," Oliver ordered.
Alice glanced at Ken, motioning for him to follow her into the back garden.
Alice lazily dragged her feet and brought Jacob to the garden behind the house. There was an awkward feeling at this moment. His logic still rejected the reality he had just received.
"You are pleased to be engaged to me, Miss?" asked Jacob breaking the silence.
"Hah?" Alice gasped at Jacob's question.
"Oh, maybe I should clarify, is Miss Alice happy that she will soon be the wife of a Jacob Fernandez?" Jacob said while sitting on one of the available garden chairs.
Alice smiled slyly.
"According to you? "
"It seems you really want and enjoy this arranged marriage. I know that there are many women out there who hope to be my partner, and you are one of them, right?" Jacob looks so confident. Alice was embarrassed to feel equal with the women out there.
"You think I agree to be matched like this? Don't because you are rich and have everything then I agree with this crazy plan. We were even babies when we were first matched. How could I refuse at that time. After all, I already have a boyfriend who is far away everything from you." Alice really couldn't help herself. Again the man belittled her.
This time it was Jacob's turn to smile. Impressed to mock Alice's words.
"Oh come on, no need to be evasive. You think I don't have a partner either, huh? I also have a partner who is far from everything from you. I'm still sane enough to distinguish between what is appropriate and not to be my companion."
Alice nodded her head.
"Then let's cancel this match," Alice offered, annoyed. "I'm also sick of having to marry someone like you. Do you think that with the wealth you have everyone will bow down to you? You are too self-confident, honorable Mr. Jacob!" he continued no less fiercely.
Instead of being offended, Jacob smiled again.
"I was indeed born as an optimistic and confident person, Miss. Everything I want always comes true. And about marriage, neither of us will be able to cancel it. So, no matter how hard you refuse, you will still be my wife and vice versa. So just enjoy yourself."
Annoyed by Jacob's words and behaviour towards her, Alice chose to leave the man alone in the park. Enough for him to meet someone so annoying.
As she stepped into the living room, Alice's steps stopped again. "How honey, have you two exchanged stories? What do you think? Did Jacob help you remember your childhood?" asked Luna so enthusiastically.
Before Alice could answer, a baritone voice interrupted her. "Ma. It seems Alice has remembered everything. Is that right?" Alice's reflex looked away briefly. Asked in his heart. Since when was the man stOliverng behind him?
"So, uncle and aunt Swan, when can Ken marry Alice? Jacob doesn't think there's anything else to wait for or consider. Besides, Alice has also agreed to this match?" Alice widened her eyes in surprise and immediately looked at Jacob, full of anger. But what happened? Again the man even replied to Alice's actions with a smile.
Jacob can decide unilaterally about marriage without asking first. Didn't the man previously admit that he already had a partner? So why now is he the one who seems in a hurry to get married? Alice had thought that Jacob had a split personality. How could he not? In front of Alice, he was so arrogant and annoying. But in front of the crowd, Jacob looks like a lovely man.
"Okay, let's negotiate the exact date this wedding will take place. Mama can't wait to accompany you to the fitting of your wedding clothes." There was a comfortable feeling tucked into the words that Luna threw.
It is certain that Jacob and Alice's parents fully agree with Jacob's suggestion to get married next month. Even the happy hue was now clearly painted on their faces.
As for Jacob? From earlier, he looked closely at Alice's face. A grin appeared on his lips as if to signal that the war was about to begin.
We'll see later whether you will continue to hate me or fall in love with me.
