Penelope’s POV:

“Baby, did you sleep at all last night?” Sera asks, eying me closely as if by doing so she’d unravel all my secrets.

It’s finally Sunday.

Today is Silas’ big day. It’s ironic to me. I was so happy, looking forward to this day. And now that it’s here; I can’t look away from the maddening ache in my head.

Sera and I stand behind all the kids and the party, the morning sun blinding us. For me in particular, it’s making my head pound like a war drum.

It’s a happy event, so many bright colors and so many kids having fun.
