Sera’s POV:
“You’re getting married?”
I can’t meet Penelope’s eyes. I can’t bear to hear the hurt in her voice, the little crack at the end of her words.
“Is this what you wanted to tell me?” she touches my shoulder. It’s a gentle touch, one that has me jumping. “Sera?”
“Won’t you say something?” My mother snaps. “Seraphina?!”
I glance at Mordecai. Our eyes meet, and he’s still holding Penelope’s hand. There doesn’t need to a change in his expression for me to know that he’s enjoying this.
