The sound of drums carried through the courtyard, soft at first, then louder as the evening went on. Torches lit every corner, laughter and music filling the air. Humans and wolves danced side by side, the walls of separation gone at last.
And there she was, sitting beside me.

Her hair caught the glow of the fire, her lips curved into a smile that made my chest ache. She leaned toward me every now and then, whispering small things, her fingers brushing mine.
