The house was too quiet.
It had been like that since the moment Nyx shut the door in my face the night before. I had stood outside her room for hours, talking, apologizing, begging her to answer me. She hadn’t said a single word.
I thought maybe she was asleep, but when I carried food up to her door the next morning, I knew she wasn’t. I had left the tray there and walked away, telling myself to give her space. Thirty minutes later, I passed by again and found that the food was untouched. Only the tea cup was missing.
