After crying to her heart’s content, Devon finally released Alice from the tight hug. Alice felt a lot better now. Devon sat down beside her without uttering a word. They sat in comfortable silence.

After a few minutes, Alice broke the silence. “Thank you” her voice came out a little hoarse.

Devon smiled a little, but didn’t reply to her words.

“You know you can’t stay here, it isn’t safe for you here” He gazed at her to check her reaction. She looked tired and a little defeated.

“I know,” she said simply. How could she stay? She felt ashamed that she didn’t have anyone she could ask for help....
