Wa wa wa!

"Ssh... don't cry, my love. Mommy's here. We'll be fine." I tried to calm Ashton, who had been crying as if he could sense my anxiety over his father—Jax's departure.

What happened to Jax down there? Is he okay? Why had almost an hour passed, and he hadn't returned?

I put Ashton back in the basket, then poked my head into the water, hoping to see something there, but nothing. It was just a dark pool of water and impossible to see.

I couldn't control my feelings at the moment. Perhaps I had done something foolish by bringing Ash. If I hadn't brought him, maybe...
