Writer's POV

Jolene opened her eyes and saw that she was in a hospital bed. She was groggy and disoriented, and it took her a moment to remember what had happened. Then, it all came back to her in a rush. The royal ball, the headache, the nausea, and then... nothing. She must have passed out. But how long had she been out? She asked the nurse who was checking her vitals. "You've been here for three days," the nurse said. "Your family is outside, waiting to see you."

The doctor had just said, "Jolene, the results of your blood test are in, and I have some news to share...
