Charles and I arrived in town and stopped at the coffeehouse to buy a coffee. When we reached the counter, it surprised Charles to see the woman.

“Gloria?” Charles asked.

“Hello, Charles.”

“I didn’t realize you worked here.”

“It helps to pay the bills.”

“You both know each other.” I gestured between the two.

“Gloria is Maurice’s wife,” Charles said.
