I was at my locker, setting my books in it, when the guys walked up, talking about something. I wasn’t taking notice, lost in my thoughts.

Then Bella strolled over to me. “How is your hand, Ryan?”

“It’s fine.” After what happened on Halloween, I had nothing to say to her.

“Ryan, I want to apologize for that night. It was out of line.”

I paused and shifted to Bella while Jordan and Frazier peered around me. That drew our attention.

“After giving it consideration, I recognized you’re not that kind of guy, and it was flippant.”
