The room went completely quiet.

Theodore was on his knees on the cold stone floor in front of me. The huge man who had just broken bones and teeth held out his big hands, trembling slightly.

"It's over," he said softly, in a low and calm voice. "He can't touch you anymore. I promise.”

I could barely breathe. I sat on the floor among the broken pieces of the door, holding my torn dress over my shoulders with the cloak he had wrapped around my body.

My body was shaking, not just from the cold air, but from the scary fight I had just seen.
