Even after Celeste had settled into her room near ours, I couldn't sleep.

Theodore was fast asleep beside me, his arm resting across my waist. I carefully lifted it and slipped out of bed, pulling a thick woolen cloak over my nightdress.

My eyes fell on the silver crown resting on the table beside our bed. The red rubies caught the light from the dying fire, reminding me of everything that had happened that night.

But there was still one thing I needed to do before I could finally close my eyes in the deep slumber threatening to overpower me.
