Chapter 3 Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Chapter 3

Third Person POV

Brielle finished getting dressed and she sighed as she looked out of the window. It was pouring rain and this weather in the city was never a good thing. The traffic was terrible, the people were more rude than usual and the worse part was-

She closed her eyes and winced once she heard the harsh coughs of Delilah in her room followed by a series of sneezes.

-Delilah. Every time it rained or snowed a little too much, her immune system would act non existent and she would catch every little disease or cold known to man. Walking out of her room she went over to Delilah's and opened the door slowly. There she saw the little girl sitting up in her bed with a red nose and bloodshot eyes. She made eye contact with her and Delilah raised her arms as tears threatened to fall from her eyes. Brielle quickly rushed over to her and picked her up. Her body was hot but she was shivering.

" B-B-Bribri.. I-I's no f-feel good. " Brielle shushed her as she sat on the bed cradling her in her arms.

" I know baby, I know.. you're burning up. Did you sleep ok? "

" Mhmm. I-I just woke up and felt b-bad " Brielle stood up with her in her arms and walked to the bathroom. Opening up the cabinet she pulled out all the medicine necessary and sat her on the counter. After helping her brush her teeth, she gave her a teaspoon of each and picked her up once again to go downstairs. She saw Killian on the way and she could tell he was ready to go. He walked over to them and kept his eyes trained on Delilah.

" What has she got? " He looked up at Brielle and she sighed.

" It could be pneumonia, the flu or just a regular cold. She has the symptoms for all three but I'm not sure. " He gazed at the little girl again for a second before looking back to Brielle.

" Has she had her shots? " Brielle rolled her eyes.

" Don't say it like that. She's a child Killian not an animal and yes, she has. "

" Just taking precautions love. Getting sick is not exactly on my agenda this week.. Anyway I'm going to the office a little early today so you take as much time as you need. Because of the rain, I'll be driving myself so George won't have to rush back and forth. "

" You? Driving? I thought you had hundreds of chauffeurs ready to go? " She teased and he rolled his eyes.

" If I were to bring a new chauffeur.. George would feel offended. He's been with me for far too long and he would take something like that to heart. "

" But you don't really care about that do you? "

" Not at all. But I guess caring about people's emotions is the uh.. humane thing to do.. " Brielle rolled her eyes once again as she smiled and tried to walk away, but Killian caught her arm. He leaned down to her ear and whispered making the goosebumps on her skin rise.

" If it weren't for the actual child in your arms right now, this encounter would not have ended like this. " She shivered as he breathed in her scent but she quickly pulled away when she felt Delilah look up and open her eyes. She gave the little girl an 'innocent' smile and walked down the stairs. Going over to the kitchen she heard the elevator ding and assumed that Killian had already left.

She sat Delilah at the table and brushed the hairs out of her face.

" You want to eat something for me baby? Hmm? " She nodded softly and before Brielle was able to call Benjamin, he already walked into the room with two full plates of food and two glasses of orange juice on the platter that he held skillfully with one hand up by his shoulder.

" Thank you Benjamin " Brielle said as he placed the food in front of them.

" It's my pleasure Ms. Newman. No need to thank me. " Brielle helped Delilah eat as she fed her small bites and Benjamin cleared his throat.

" I regret to inform you Miss but I will be in and out of the penthouse as I have many errands to run and scheduled plans that unfortunately have to take place in the rain.. I will be indoors for the most part and if the weather wasn't bad and the little one wasn't sick, I would have no problem taking her out with me. I don't think it would be good for her to be in the rain for a long period of time. " Brielle nodded her head and thought about who could watch Delilah.

Madam A would be too busy and Mr. Burkley is probably just as busy running errands for her. She tried to think about who could watch her in such short notice as she had to be to the office in less than an hour.

" Miss.. If you don't mind me cutting your thought off. " She looked back up to him.

" Sir shouldn't have a problem with you bringing the little one to work with you. Finding a temporary caretaker will be difficult on such short notice but that's just a suggestion. " Brielle sighed as Delilah finished eating and almost coughed up a storm.

" You're not giving me much of a choice Benjamin.. I mean it's gonna take me a while to get a bag packed and the medications, I probably won't get to work on ti.... " She cut herself off and watched as he pulled the chair from the table, looked under and pulled out a light pink tote bag and a smaller bag filled with her medication and food.

" ... What if she gets really col- " She stopped when he went back under the table and pulled out three soft beige fleece blankets.

" Well.. what if she's too ho- " She stopped once again as he opened the bag and showed her a thermometer and several ice packs.

" If you couldn't tell Ms. Newman, I am a very vigilant and observant man and I try not to let anything go by without notice. I heard Delilah cough once last night around three in the morning near my quarters and I quickly rushed to give her a teaspoon of medicine and a cup of tea. I don't think the medicine did much but the tea surely put her back to sleep. I also might have heard you speaking with sir and I put together what she will need for the day. " Brielle looked him in the eye.

" Benjamin. "

" Yes Madam? "

" I'm getting a small vibe that you like spying on us. " He shrugged.

" I wouldn't call spying, more so watchful or attentive " Brielle stood up as she picked up Delilah.

" Well Mr. Spy I think you forgot to get one thing ready "

" And what might that be Ms. Newman? " Placing Delilah in his arms, she smiled.

" The other Ms. Newman. " Benjamin looked down to Delilah and nodded.

" Right you are. I'll be back in no time. " And with that he walked off.

Killian continued staring at the email Calvin had sent and he still didn't know what emotion to feel. He was angry at himself for letting something as meaningless as this come into his mind but with Brielle, it was more than meaningful for her. He stepped away from his computer and looked out the window as he saw the rain pour from the sky. Walking over, he rested his hands on the rail as he gazed down at the people who either ran to get somewhere dry or those who sat under their umbrellas or at the bus stop.

The traffic was somewhat calm but that didn't help the panic that he could see from afar. He continued to stare down as someone caught his eye. There was a man in a dark hoodie standing right by his car not moving or doing anything. He was just staring at Killian's car from the back motionless. Unlike every other person on the streets, this man seemed unbothered.. careless.

He watched as the man pull out his phone and aimed it towards his license plate. Killian pulled out his phone in a millisecond and dialed his security guard.

" Sir is there a problem? "

" There is a man by my car taking a picture of the license plate... send him away will you " Killian said as this wasn't a one time thing and his guards were used to it.

" And while you're at it, have someone drive it to the garage. It slipped my mind to have that done. "

" Of course sir. " Killian hung up the phone and looked back down to the man only to see him turned towards the building and looking up. It was as if time had stopped as he stared at the dark shadow of the man's hood which was his face. Killian tilted his head to the side and the man tilted his head with him as well. Killian tilted his head to the other side and the man did the same. While others may have found this encounter disturbing, Killian found it somewhat amusing.

Before anything else could happen, the time seemed to have unpause and he dashed across the streets as the guards came out. He moved quickly and skillfully. It was as if running was his second nature and he wouldn't get tired of it.

He was gone as quick as he was seen and Killian turned away as he thought nothing much of it. He took a seat at his desk and continued to read over all the received contracts that were asking for his approval to join his company and have theirs under his name.

Brielle on the other hand had just arrived and was struggling to get all the bags and the sleepy girl out of George's car.

" Madam, would you like some assistance? " George yelled over the rain and Brielle shook her head as she grabbed the bags as she held her umbrella.

" You're in the middle of the street George. I'll come back for Delilah. Then you need to go park. " He nodded his head and closed the door and ran to the entrance where the security guards, Jason and Tyler, quickly opened the door for her. She handed Tyler all of the bags before rushing back to get Delilah. Once she did she entered the building fully and turned the heads of all the employees that were in the lobby.

Walking over to the private elevator, Brielle paid no attention to the women who started making rumors and pointing fingers. Tyler entered the elevator and Brielle pushed the top floor to go up. Once they reached it, they both walked out and Anna's head rose and she awed at Delilah who was in a white bunny raincoat. Brielle opened the door to Killian's office and his head snapped up as he watched Tyler placed multiple bags in her office before leaving. He looked to Brielle. who was holding the little girl in her arms and he watched her go into her office.

She placed the blankets on the couch and removed the wet coat and boots from the Delilah before placing her on the makeshift bed. She sighed heavily before walking to her desk and plopping herself down in her seat. She noticed all the paperwork on her desk and decided to get started. After about 30 minutes, the door opened and she looked up to see Killian leaning against the door. She stood up and walked out of the room to not wake Delilah. He sat back at his desk and she sat across from him.

" Did you finish the reports I gave you the other day? " She nodded her head.

" What meetings do I have today? " Brielle opened her iPad and read off the names of the companies.

" I need a double background check on those last two CEOs and remind me to make a call to Mr. Masahiko. We will be traveling back and forth to Japan and I want to make sure he'll be ready for our arrival. " Brielle nodded her head and started going through her calendar and notes. Killian watched her as he stood up and walked around to lean on the front of his desk.

" Anything else sir? " She asked as she placed her iPad in her lap and Killian bit his lip.

" Who's Eugene? "
