I ran as fast as I could without catching my breath, my heartbeat like a drum in auto-mode. My dad’s words incessantly repeated themselves in my head, nonstop.
“You need to be home this instant.” It echoed again, and I ran even faster. The fear of something bad happening to either of my family members brought immense tremors to my very core. I wouldn’t be able to bear it.
By the time I reached home, I was almost gasping for air, my chest rising and falling like it was about to jump out of my skin.
