He just didn't really want to talk to the young man anymore, he hadn't forgotten the sin he had committed, the sin he could never undo. It somehow reduces the guilt he feels when they don't talk, if only he would have been brave enough to shout out to her the reason why he doesn't want to see it anymore and be with her just because he's weak and he can't say his reason.
