The glass felt icy in my grip. The room spun around us, oblivious. Soft music clashed with the sharp dread in my gut. I pictured a smashed car. A frantic call. The anger in my chest morphed into pure terror.
“How bad is it?” I choked out.
“Bad. We’ll know more soon,” Tristan barked, already pulling me toward the exit.
The city blurred into wet streaks outside the window. I pressed my sweating palms against my thighs, blaming the crushing tightness in my chest on adrenaline. Just a normal reaction to a late-night hospital dash.
