Seraphina’s Pov

The next morning the door opened early. Cassian was standing there. He did not have a tray of food.

“Get up,” he said. “Come with me.”

I stood up from the bed. My back was still sore from the stick yesterday. I followed him out of the room and down the hall. We went into the room with the mirrored wall. But today the room was different. The chair was gone. In the middle of the floor was a soft black mat.

“Kneel on the mat,” he said.

I knelt down. The mat was soft on my knees. He stood in front of me with his arms crossed....
