I carried Lila out of the clearing with her body held tight against my chest. She weighed almost nothing in my arms, but she fought the whole way, kicking her legs and pushing at my shoulders with her hands. The fresh mark on her neck bled a little and the smell of her heat mixed with my scent drove me crazy. The pack cheered behind us but I did not look back. She was mine now and I needed to get her home fast.

"Put me down, Cassian," she said, loud, twisting in my hold. "I am not going with you."
