“Let’s try that again,” Isaac said.

Ember sighed. “Can we take a break?” she asked into the mic.

Ember was sitting in the sound booth and this was the fifty-millionth time they’d tried to record the song. Okay, maybe not fifty-millionth, but it felt like it.

Isaac nodded and waved at her to come out. Ember removed the headphones and slid off the stool, trudging toward the door. Maybe her singing career was over. Maybe the brain aneurysm had messed with her vocal cords and she could no longer sing.
