Ember POV

Ember made a rocking motion with her hand. “Sort of,” she replied.

“It was a long time ago,” Avery said with an easy smile. “So, are you lost?”

They both looked around the bustling (not bustling) centre of Hope Springs and laughed at the irony.

“No,” Ember said with a shake of her head. “Just enjoying the sun and the quiet.” She turned to look at Avery’s store and then the bakery next-door. “I might get some morning tea.”

Avery followed her gaze and scowled. “You should go to the cafe instead.”

“Oh? Is there a new owner? Is it not as good as it used to be?...
