He looked up at her and she wanted to throat-punch the person who put that look in his eyes.
“It’s late,” he said, his voice rough. “I should go.”
“Don’t be silly. Come in.”
Sara stepped back and opened the door wider to let him in. He hesitated and looked over his shoulder as if he was going to walk away.
“Come on,” she encouraged. “You’re already here. You may as well come in.”
He sighed and then heaved himself up and dragged his feet as he walked inside. He headed for her living room as she closed the door. She took a moment to lean against it...
