Mia paused at the front of the truck and turned to look back at him with a question in her eyes. He forced a smile to his face, took a breath, and climbed out of the truck.
“Are you okay?” She asked when he stopped beside her.
“Yeah,” he nodded. “I’m good.”
He wanted to take her hand as they climbed the verandah stairs, but he didn’t. They didn’t have that kind of relationship. He’d held her hand when they were in Melbourne, but that felt like a lifetime ago and in an alternate universe.
