“I still don’t know why you’re doing this,” Smith said from the front seat of his truck as we drove toward Willison’s house. “I thought you wanted to move into the apartment above the store.”

Mia rolled her eyes, even though Smith couldn’t see her.

“It’s only temporary. Just until the apartment is ready to move into.”

“Why can’t you stay with me and Amelia ?”

Mia made a gagging noise, and Amelia laughed. “I think today is proof that Mia can’t stay with us any longer,” she said.
