Adolphus motioned his hand in the air, gesturing for the servant to leave. He saw Iris' nose and cheeks were red because she cried profusely after he raised his voice at her. 

"Take a seat," Adolphus said. 

Iris stepped up and sat on the vintage-style sofa chair on the left of the couch. Adolphus picked up the jar and filled the glass with water. He rose to his feet and handed it to Iris. She first refused, but on his insistence, she took the water glass from him.
