Without thinking, I wrapped my arms around Toby, pulling him into a light hug. His body stiffened in surprise, but then he relaxed, embracing me back. As we held each other, a mix of emotions washed over me—guilt and empathy.
Breaking the hug, I gazed into his eyes, my voice soft. "I'm really sorry, Toby, for not reciprocating your feelings, but I want you to know that I can be your friend, okay?"
He chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "Why would I feel bad? You rejected me, but there are many fish in the sea. I can find another girl. Trust me, I'm a ladies' man."
