I sat in the apartment office, eyes staring at the computer screen without really seeing what was written there. My thoughts were caught in an emotional mess. A phone call from Adrian, a lawyer who was always able to maintain composure, woke me up from my confusion.

"Kayra has just been rushed to the hospital," said Adrian and surprised me.

"What happened to Kayra?" I asked Adrian, trying to keep my voice down so as not to show how worried I was.
