“There are a few things you need to know,” I continued, trying to calm myself. “I have decided to step down from the project we are working on.”

Gasps and whispers could be heard around the table, and some of them seemed genuinely surprised. One of the directors, Mr. Steven, a middle-aged man who had worked with me for a long time, raised his hand and spoke.

“Mr. Darwis, are you serious?” he asked in disbelief. “This is one of the biggest projects in our company’s history. Stepping down now would have a huge impact, not just on us, but also on our investors.”
