I would look at the pack square through the shadows of the upper trees, and the breath I was taking was slow, and my body was still. A fine halo of glamour coated me like a second-skin, distorting light and smell sufficiently to render me invisible. Torches were flickering fiercer than normal below, and their fires glowed in the night wind. Something was wrong. No--something already was wrong.
Rylan came out of the wood-track, dripping to the bone.
