The traveller lay sprawling on the old stone floor, with his gasp, but still alive. The dark veins of his arms had now turned to a softer grey, and his skin was not on fire anymore. I brushed my sweat with my forehead and drew a deep breath.
"It worked," I whispered.
Harriet crouched beside me with an agape gaze. "Mommy... you saved him."
"I tried," I said softly. "But he fought for his life too."
